Medical Informatics

Intersection between  Medical Knowledge, Computers , and application of the such knowledge to improve the patient care , research and cut down costs.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE IN MEDICAL INFORMATICS DOMAIN ARE AS FOLLOWS

1.       Introduction and definitions of Health care informatics
2.       Brief history of computers and health care – Saudi Association of health informatics established in 2006
3.       Structure of a computer system- hard ware , software, connectivity –wired wireless – Networking and servers – Internet its development and its role in health care
4.       Informatics applications – clinic level- hospital level- university level- regional ‘At Taif’- country level for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia- Global level CDC- monitoring spread of diseases across the globe
5.       Telemedicine concepts
6.       Patient portals – their uses and abuses
7.       Cloud computing – applications in health care
8.       Surveillance and epidemiology – role for health informatics
9.       EBH evidence based healthcare- seamlessly merging with Health informatics
1.   Digital radiology and imaging- role in film less domains- forensic dentistry applications
1.      Future trends-for health informatics                                                                                                                  a. artificial intelligence – medical algorithms
b. Global patient ID and Web based medical record
c. computer assisted medical diagnosis
d. Longitudinal life time records – transferable all over the globe

Medical informatics, is an interdisciplinary field of study that emphasizes the use of computer technology to help organize, analyze, manage and use information in improving health care.

Its chief goals are to develop standards and clinical guidelines,
formalize medical terminology,
coding and classification,
enhance the usability of health information systems to facilitate communication
and manage the flow of information from physicians to patients and vice-versa.

Without medical informatics the patient care will proceed at this pace...............
